Who we are
Living ArtsEngine (LAE) is an creative interdisciplinary Michigan Learning Community housed in Bursley Hall on the University of Michigan’s North Campus. LAE brings together first-year students and returning student leaders in the arts, architecture, engineering, information and other fields to explore innovation, creativity and collaboration.
About the Program
Living ArtsEngine strives to provide an open environment that encourages students to generate and pursue creative new ideas. The program offers interdisciplinary courses, monthly community meetings, and weekly workshops led by U-M faculty, staff, students, student organizations, and local organizations from the fields of engineering, architecture, computer science, visual arts, film, music performance and composition, dance, theater, and more!
Collaboration
All Living ArtsEngine students work on collaborative projects and are supported by peer mentorship from student leaders who are former LAE community members. Our student leaders also plan lots of fun social events throughout the year!
Living ArtsEngine, the only learning community on North Campus, is also the only learning community co-sponsored by the four North Campus units:
- College of Engineering
- School of Art & Design
- School of Music, Theatre & Dance
- Taubman College of Architecture + Urban Planning
- School of Information
While we are supported by the North Campus units, Living ArtsEngine accepts creative students from all disciplines and units at U-M!
